Lydia - an almost unintentional home birth
We went for a checkup to LKH Steyr on August 2nd 2006 where a CTG was written for half an hour. The contraction writer showed a contraction activity of 11 minutes. Antje has already had contraction pain since the night. After finishing with the CTG, Antje asked the midwife whether the contractions were pre-contractions or not as the induced pregnancy with Carmen was quite different. The midwife told us that we would recognize when the whole thing would start! The medical specialist made an ultrasonic scan where the head of the child wasn't visible anymore!!!!!!!!!!
All the same nobody in the hospital checked the neck of the womb!!!
Antje asked the same question which she has already asked the midwife again with the same result but with the aditional advise to go immediately to the hospital if she couldn't feel the baby anymore. The question was this important because it would take us about 30 minutes to arrive at the hospital in Steyr.
At 1.15 pm we left the hospial feeling quite unsure and started our way home . Antje couldn't imagine how to bear this pain for several days.
On our way home we stopped in Perg to pay Dr. Wohlschlager a visit to gain a second opinion on this matter. Had we not been able to contact this doctor we would have a home birth - the title would fit. After a grip on the neck of the womb the doctor told us calmly that the neck of the womb was 3.15 in wide and that he would call the ambulance and that we should hope that it will arrive soon.
At 3.20 pm we arrived at the LKH in Linz and thankfully we were already expected because of the phone call of Dr. Wohlschlager and at 3.42 pm Lydia was born as mentioned before.
